In every governorate around the country, you can find skillful crafters doing their art and getting inspirations from their surroundings. Along the years, hand crafts were a source of income that cater to domestic needs. They were also a prominent method of creative self-expression.

Egyptian hand crafts have a wide variety. They include beading, wood and glass decoration, copper works, embroidery works, tents and others. Moreover, handicrafts are considered a very important element to show the heritage and history of Egypt. It’s a unique way of expressing the true Egyptian personality to the world.

Yasmine Fahmy metal work

Coming from an artistic family, Yasmine has fell in love with art and attended Faculty of Fine Arts, Egypt in 2009. After studying Islamic Art, she was passionate about the Islamic architectural details. Yasmine then decided to take her passion to the next level and start her own gallery. She designs special lighting units that speak of authenticity and beauty using copper and brass. The lamps reflect the marvels of the Islamic style and detailing.

Kilim

It all started Noha El Taher and her husband Ibrahim couldn’t find any other brand dedicated to kilim products. Then they decided to start Kilim, a social enterprise and designer brand. Their main aim is reviving this special Egyptian Kilim craft while adding a modern touch to it. Their products are handcrafted in Fowa village in Kafr El Sheikh. This place used to be a hub for kilim industry two decades ago. If you’re looking for a cool rug or a cushion for your home, then that’s the place for you!

Markaz

Mohamed Amin and Naila El Shishiny are the entrepreneurs are behind Makaz online shopping platform. It’s a brand that highlights traditional Egyptian crafts from all roots. All the products are Egyptian by the hands of artsy Egyptian women who learnt the craft from their ancestors. Moreover, they are keen on having handmade products from governorates all over Egypt. Each piece tells a special story from its origins. Their products vary from bags and scarves to cushions and home accessories.

Gebraa

Ever since 2014 Gebraa has been working to highlight marginalized Egyptian crafters. It’s founded by Rania Salah Seddick. Basically, Gebraa supports artists in the market by enhancing their product developing skills. This is through various training and design workshops. Then they work on marketing these products locally and internationally. Furthermore, most of Gebra’s profit goes to fund activities of Karama NGO for community development and heritage preservation.
