ESU Lab department of Architecture, Mansoura university organized the first Architectural and urban scientific forum in the Delta region. The event took place on the 3rd and 4th of November, 2019. ESU Lab in cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin, Hamburg University and funded by the DAAD.
Dr. Moamen Soudani and Dr. Mina Samaan were the responsible coordinates for this event as well as the ongoing Egyptian-German academic cooperation projects for developing a center of Excellence in the Egyptian universities in Nile-Delta.
Discussing urban as well as energy-saving and water challenges. Several German and Egyptian researchers, professors and practitioners gave lectures on these topics.
On the 3rd of Nov. after the presentations, a series of workshops started. Including a workshop for urban informalities monitored by Dr. Hassan El Mouelhi, the participants were asked to point out the urban problems for Delta city.
Furthermore, street urban art workshop was conducted by Eng. Hassan Ismail founder of DUCO – Empowering Urban Appeal. The workshop participants took a tour of the university to discuss the techniques and design process of drawing on the building’s facades. Afterward, Ismail asked each student to develop his/her own idea and start sketching it.
Moreover, building with clay workshop by Dr. Adel Fahmy and Eng. Kareem Hassan from Benaa Foundation focused on presenting the clay as an alternative for concrete buildings. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to try and work with the clay themselves.
Today, a series of workshops were presented by a number of researchers from CityScience Lab, HafenCity University, Hamburg. Lisa Reudenbach led the informality workshop. Rosa Thoneick conducted the participation workshop. Moreover, Jonas Luft worked with the students on the Maps workshop.
