The Story
For more than 25 years, Kelos handmade glass had dazzled us with their beautifully crafted works. With their kindled passion and exceptional skill, they design glass ornaments and accessories. In addition to being keen on creating outstanding glassworks, Kelos has also been keen on expanding their limits in glassblowing. To illustrate, they always explore divergent techniques, add different materials and accept the challenges of the design process. As a result, Kelos pushed the envelope to collaborate with top design houses and produce a new splendid collection that launched on the 12th of October, 2020.
The Collaboration
Above all, the collaboration of Kelos with four of the most well-known design houses is just colossal! These design houses are Cherif Morsi, Mahally by Mona Hussien, Karim Mekhtigan, and Shosha Kamal Design House. The collaboration theme was “Off Limits”; throughout the collaboration, all designers challenged Kelos’s techniques with their creative designs. Consequently, and the result was a magnificent collection that conveys beauty in so many ways. Abdelrahman Mohamed, the Co-founder and Designer of Kelos, described the event by saying: ”We wanted it to be a celebration of the Artistry of blown-glass, joining forces and connecting with creativity.” And yes it surely was a celebration of creativity.
The Launching
The launching of the new collection “Explore” took place on a charming rooftop in downtown Cairo. All the gifted designers gathered under magical string lights celebrating their wonderful works. Abdelrahman Mohamed contributed to this new collection with his own ideas and designs. He said: ”I was inspired by different forms of light and shadows from nature and in the world around us and tried to design according to how I wanted the light to be perceived, I also wanted to create lighting units that could stand alone or be connected together to create larger units in an original and unique way.” During the event, Kelos represented their process of exploring different forms and effects in light and glass through several hidden rooms that contained various installations, each had its own character. Moreover, there was a museum room that showed an art project “Faces” which displayed skillfully glass-blown human heads.
