Above all, the mosque is a project for Inertia Properties in Jefaira, North Coast. F & R Partnership team wanted to design a minimal mosque and an exceptional design that is just one of a kind. The mosque will stand on a cliff that overlooks the sea and this challenged the designers to create something that is in harmony with the environment, appealing, artistic, and most importantly arousing curiosity.

To achieve their vision of a minimal mosque, F & R Partnership worked on many levels. Firstly, the architects aimed to design a mosque that doesn’t have the “traditional” architectural elements of the Islamic religious buildings. So, the design doesn’t have any domes, inscriptions of verses on the facade or even the crescent on the minaret.

Secondly, to send a feeling of humbleness to the praying person, F & R Partnership had to design a massive-sized mosque. To illustrate, the scale of the building automatically tells the users to humble themselves and be ready to meet with God Almighty.

Generally, the mosque is composed of four areas. The first, is the outdoor public stairs area where the users could meet and discuss different topics. This social space can also work as an extension to the prayer hall if it’s completely brimming with people. The second section and the first mass is the tent. It’s where the users get ready to pray. The third area and second mass is the service area and is designed in dark brick. The final area and biggest mass is the prayer hall.

Going inside the mosque, the prayer hall of the mosque has an English court design where rays of light only fall on the Sheikh who leads the prayer. To clarify, this design intends to capture the praying people’s attention to the Sheikh and to focus on God alone where all light comes from.
