The BigPicture Photo competition started in 2014. On its sixth year, BigPicture encourages photographers from around the world to contribute their work to this competition. That will both celebrate and illustrate the rich diversity of life on Earth and inspire action to protect and conserve it through the power of imagery.

Photographer: Peter Mather is a photojournalist based in Whitehorse, Yukon. His photography focuses on long-form stories about the wildlife, conservation and people of the North. He is a member of the International League of Conservation Photographers and is represented by National Geographic Image Collection and Minden Pictures.

Photographer: Pier Mane was born in Italy, now living in Cape Town, South Africa. He fell in love with being underwater and started diving in 1985 at the age of seven! Mane was certified at a Club Med at 12 and became a diving instructor prior to his 18th birthday. He interrupted his diving after college to pursue a career in Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Management. In 2014, when he rented a digital underwater camera from Kathy Church in Grand Cayman and rediscovered his passion for diving and underwater photography. He purchased his own rig, an EM-1, which he really enjoys shooting. He recently won the Up & Coming Underwater Photographer of the Year 2016 title.
