Algorithmic Couture is a collaboration between project lead and fashion designer Kazuya Kawasaki, Shimizu, designer Kotaro Sano, and machine learning engineer Yusuke Fujihira, who together make up Synflux.

Synflux runs machine-learning algorithms over the data collected to find the optimum clothing pattern that reduces fabric waste to zero. The program then generates optimized fashion pattern modules comprised of 2D rectangles and straight lines. These 2D modules that make up the overall clothing are then modeled using computer-aided design (CAD) software. To then produce a fashion pattern for an item of clothing that is both comfortable and sustainable.

More About Algorithmic Couture

It is a platform service to provide zero waste for a more sustainable future for the environment. That involves 3D-scanning a body to determine its exact proportions. That is used to create customized clothing and aim to automate the process of showed fashions. Through the use of digital fabrication technologies that create fashion by order. Rather than creating a mass amount of stock.  The project at its core consists of 3 main concepts; Firstly, sustainability, through changing a polluting industry through zero-waste fashion design. Secondly digitization, through digitizing traditional haute couture techniques into parameters for an automated digital fabrication production system. Lastly customization, through the mass customization of bespoke garments. Providing an area of co-creation with customers the ability through the use of parameters over designs that would be generated from their body data.

This system also allows the client to customize the shape, fabric, and color of the final clothing to reflect their personal style and own taste. In addition, Algorithmic Couture reduces the amount of waste and cost. That is a great successful step towards the future of the environment that should be encouraged and generalized.
